Directions, experiences, and practices are significant elements needed for the prospective programs of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences CMHS that CSU will open soon. It is vital to prepare CSU for another critical endeavor.

On September 13-15, 2022, some CSU officials benchmarked other Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). They went to Western Mindanao State University, Zamboanga City: and were warmly welcomed by Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) President, Dr. Carla Ochotorena, Dr. Ma. Cecilia Cuaresma, College of Medicine dean and other WMSU personnel and at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Cebu City with Medical Center Chief, Dr. Gerardo Aquino for a Benchmarking Activity on the preparation and processes in establishing a College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS).

The journey of these two (2) identified institutions were of much importance since they have just successfully offered health-related programs. Among the universities in the Philippines, WMSU and CNU are continuously developing and improving their CMHS. The gamut of fora enriched the CSU officials with relevant information and experiences.

CSU has just received 20 Plantilla positions for the opening of a College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) and is still in search for 4 Professor V, 6 Associate Professor IV, 6 Assistant Professor III, and 4 Instructor III.

The dilemma of finding a tertiary hospital in the region and selection of faculty members were critically discussed. CSU intends to partner with neighboring regional hospitals conforming to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) standards.

The substantial dialogue and relevant information gathered as to the establishment of the CMHS helped CSU to address its needs and hopes to submit the application within this year with the help of curriculum experts, resource persons, hired medical faculty, and other personnel.

The benchmarking was attended by Dr. Anthony M. Penaso, former CSU President; Dr. Rolando N. Paluga, VP for Academic Affairs; Dr. Armie Leila M. Mordeno, VP for Administration and Finance; Dr. Luisito I. Tabada, VP for Executive Operations and Auxiliary Services; and Mr. Eric Jhon E. Auguis, Executive Assistant to the Office of the CSU President. EJEA/OP-PMS/pico
