True to its call as a steward of problem-solvers and value creators, Caraga State University welcomed 71 senior high school students from Taligaman National High School into the university work culture. This commences the university’s acceptance of secondary schools’ immersion programs in Butuan City for this year, as stipulated through the Memorandum of Agreements (MOA).
The immersion program ran from January 13 to 27, with 80 total working hours. Forty-one (41) students following the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand were deployed to the College of Engineering and Geosciences (CEGS) and the College of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (CMNS) through its biology, chemistry, and physics laboratories.
Meanwhile, 20 students under the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMMS) strand and 10 from Information and Communication Technology were assigned to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS) and the College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS), respectively.
In her welcome message during the culmination program on January 27, Dr. Maria Elma Q. Won, Director of the Office of Student Internship Programs, emphasized the university’s openness to extend its resources and insights to external partners.
CHASS Dean Dr. Ruth E. Sanchez also graced the activity and highlighted how the students could make practical use of the various skills they learned from the immersion. She also advised the students to be cautious of what they consume and involve themselves in as a way to “guard their hearts,” which is central to discovering their passion.
The university has served as among the primary providers of advanced education, instruction, and training in the region. The same is true for the immersion opportunities with educational partners, contributing to Sustainable Development Goal No. 4 which is Quality Education.
