Marking an end to the academic year 2023-2024, Caraga State University propelled the graduation ceremony of the SANGHAYA Class with the theme “Going Beyond Borders: Cultivating Academic Excellence, Lifelong Learning and Global Citizenship,” held at the CSU Gymnasium and Cultural Center, June 21.

The momentous event began with a baccalaureate service, adding a meaningful and spiritual dimension to the ceremony. The graduating class was reminded of the significance of their achievements as they embarked on their life journey, guided by the gospel message delivered by Rev. Father Robin Dumaguit. “Let us translate our knowledge into wisdom, our skills into discovering new technologies that enhance human efficiency and development, and our good intentions into workable plans that prepare our youth to face future challenges,” Fr. Dumaguit stated.

Following this, a series of rituals ensued, including the blessing of hoods, diplomas, medals, and a closing prayer, marking the culmination of the initial part of the event, which was followed by the hooding ceremonies.

The ceremonial processional march of graduates, university officials and executives, guest speakers, and other stakeholders commenced the commencement rites. This was followed consecutively by the preliminaries. Next, the event featured the presentation of the 1,373 graduates from all programs across the university's seven colleges, along with the endorsement and conferral of their titles and degrees.

The graduates were then inspired by motivational words from guest speaker Dr. Napoleon K. Juanillo Jr., Assistant Secretary for Technology Transfer and Commercialization at the Department of Science and Technology. Dr. Juanillo encouraged the Sanghaya Class, stating, “Let your passion ignite your continued learning, especially in a world rapidly evolving with revolutionary ideas and innovations. What we have learned at Caraga State, let’s validate those in the world of action.”

Continuing with the proceedings, graduates received their diplomas, certificates, awards, and medals, reaping the rewards of their years of hard work.

James B. Dulugan, from the BS Mathematics program, delivered the Valedictory Address, honoring his successes and delivering words of inspiration to his peers. Dulugan stressed the importance of consistency, perseverance, and maintaining a positive and humble attitude. “Expect results with a grateful heart, imposing grace and humility in everything. Things might not flow in your favor at first glance, but, as long as you are consistent in your efforts, eventually, you'll arrive at your desired destination,” he said.

Following this, Ivie A. Azote, the batch Salutatorian from BEEd, led the graduates in their pledge of loyalty to the Alma Mater. Hon. Michel B. Valdez, President of the Alumni Federation, inducted the 2024 graduating class into the CSU Alumni Association, and Mr. Jumil M. Pelayo handed over the Sanghaya Class’ Project.

To conclude the event, the graduates celebrated to the tune of "Hiraya Manawari" and sang the Graduation Song, "I Always Remember You."

The 47th Commencement Exercises at Caraga State University marked not only the end of an academic journey but also the beginning of a new chapter for the graduates, inspiring them to pursue excellence and global citizenship with unwavering dedication. │ via the Gold Panicles
