Caraga State University (CSU) was awarded another Platinum Award this year, for the second time around. The Platinum Award is the highest honor that the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) annually confers to the best performing Innovation and Technology Support Offices (ITSO) during the ITSO Clustering Award held April 18, 2022, via Zoom. CSU's ITSO also received other awards, namely: the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards, after satisfying all the annual requirements under the different categories set by IPOPHL.
CSU received the Platinum Award due to the commercialization of one of the innovations from the university through the research and development output from the research project under MapX led by Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil, the Dean of the College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS). Commercialization is the primary requirement to land in the Platinum Award category. MapX is a real property tax mapping software or platform that helps the local government units (LGUs) automate their processes. CSU entered into a commercialization agreement with the City Government of Butuan (CGB), headed by Hon. Vicente Ronnie Lagnada. The commercialization endeavor was under the supervision of Dr. Anthony M. Penaso, CSU President with Engr. Dellosa of TTLO and Dr. Daguil of MapX on the part of the marketing and negotiations. MapX is a project funded under the DOST's Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technologies Research and Development (PCIEERD) - Research, Innovation, and Technology Transfer Division (RITTD). In 2021, Dr. Daguil also led the commercialization of their team's software and information systems and commercialized and transferred these systems to Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) for over Php4.0 Million. Hence the first Platinum Award was received by the university in 2021.
CSU is one of the seven (7) universities (among the 100 HEIs) in the country to have received these awards (Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum Awards) this year; having been quoted as "hakut" awardee of the yearly event. CSU is one of the only two universities that have been given the distinction of winning all the award categories this year. It has maintained its being a Platinum Awardee of 2021. This year is IPOPHIL’s second annual virtual awarding ceremony honoring the highly accomplished ITSOs.
Engr. Jeffrey T. Dellosa, ITSO Manager and the Director of the Technology Transfer and Licensing Office (TTLO), received the awards on behalf of the university. The awards received by the TTLO and ITSO Team in CSU are a culmination of a year-long work and commitment to excellence in intellectual property (IP) education, IP protection, and technology transfer & commercialization activities. One of the ITSO Cluster Awards objectives is to measure the output of the ITSOs in various institutions and their competence per the signed ITSO 2.0 Memorandum of Agreement between IPOPHL and the universities.
Other universities that swept all four awards this year included Capiz State University, BIPSU, Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), Samar State University (SSU), and Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) the Visayas, and University of the Philippines (UP) Manila. But only CSU and SSU retained the Platinum Awards and, at the same time, swept all other awards this year. Ateneo de Manila University, Central Mindanao University, and Cavite State University received Platinum, Gold, and Bronze awards.
Institutions in Mindanao which received recognition from IPOPHL are Surigao State College of Technology (Bronze Award), Northeastern Mindanao State University (Bronze and Gold Awards), University of Science and Technology in Southern Philippines (USTP) (Bronze and Silver Awards), University of Mindanao (Bronze and Silver), University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP) (Bronze Award), and Mindanao State University (MSU)-Main Campus (Bronze Award).
CSU’s ITSO remains committed to maintaining the status of excellence as it continues to serve both the stakeholders and members of the University and those it helps in the city and the region. JD/ITSO/TTLO/pico
