CSU-DOST –PCIEERD with Butuan City Government launch MapX

December 1, 2021 started with a blast for Caraga State University with the Department of Science and Technology- Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) and the Butuan City Government as it launched MapX. 

Caraga State University, through its Center for Information and Communication Technology (ICTC), is creating innovations and developing projects for sustainability to contribute to the economic progress of the Caraga region. Among its successful projects, funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through its FASTRAC Program of the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development is MapX.

MapX stands for “Manage Your Assets, Properties and Map It for Visualization.” It is a platform tailor-fit to address the problems faced by real property owners and local government units on real property tax mapping. The project endeavors to improve the efficiency in the current process of administering real property tax, especially in digitizing tax maps. MapX has developed an online platform using advanced technologies to create and digitize maps. It is paired with a mobile app for easy & convenient payment of property tax.

The MapX Product Launching and MOA Ceremonial Signing with the City Government of Butuan was held at the auditorium of the CSU-HERO Learning Commons on the first of December 2021. MapX was spearheaded by the College of Computing and Information Systems (CCIS) led by Dean Rolyn C. Daguil who also heads the MapX Project.

Inking the agreement between CSU and the City Govt of Butuan were CSU President, Dr. Anthony M. Penaso and Mayor Ronnievic C. Lagnada witnessed by Councilor Omar Andaya and MapX project head, Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil. The Butuan City government will adopt the spin off business on real property tax mapping to make things easier, faster, and more reliable for city government transactions.

The MapX launching and signing of the Memorandum of Agreement was attended by select CSU officials, guests and the Mapx team following the usual health and safety protocols especially physical distancing. Among those who were present were CSU VP for Research, Innovation and Extension, Dr. Rowena P. Varela and VP for Executive Operations and Auxiliary Services, Dr. Luisito I. Tabada who did the opening and closing remarks respectively. Other officials around include Dr. Michelle Japitana, Director, Office of Planning and Development, Technology Transfer and Licensing Office Director, Engr. Jeffrey T. Dellosa, and Dr. Sonia R. Low, Director, Public Information and Communication Office and Alumni Relations Office with OP Chief of Staff, Dr. Felix Ocarez and Executive Assistant, Office of the CSU President, Eric Jhon Auguis.
