October 11, 2023 — The Futures Thinking Team at Caraga State University (CSU) marked the official start of the implementation of the research program, "Circular Economy and ICT Integration for Community-Driven Development of Smart Agrifood Systems" through a workshop. This event took place at the H.E.R.O Learning Commons and brought together a group of respected researchers with diverse expertise. The workshop primarily focused on the incorporation of two key components: the Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG), the 8-point socio-economic agenda, and LIKHA agenda. These elements are essential for the successful execution of the Futures Thinking program initiative at the university.

Dr. Michelle V. Japitana, the program leader, commenced the program by providing an overview of how Futures Thinking serves as a strategic design approach that emphasizes the importance of considering both anticipated changes and constants in the future, aiming to enhance the reflective aspect of strategic planning. Following this, Mr. John Ralde Felias, the Gender and Development (GAD) Director, delivered a presentation underscoring the significance of HGDG as a gender analysis tool. Its application ensures that the research program remains responsive to gender-related considerations. Prof. Henson Dejarme then presented the 8-point socio-economic agenda, a critical framework addressing immediate national concerns such as inflation. This research agenda strives to safeguard the purchasing power of families and consumers. The research program aligns with multiple aspects of this agenda, particularly in the domains of Food Security, Education, and Social Services.

The workshop participants dedicated the entire afternoon to crafting research proposals, organized into two projects. These projects were led by Mr. Rex G. Parro (Leader of Project 1) and Mr. Melbert R. Bonotan (Leader of Project 2). The workshop concluded with presentations by the project leaders, outlining their project's work plans and financial details.
