To prepare for the upcoming academic year, the faculty and staff of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS) conducted their Annual Planning and Performance Review and Assessment at Kaliguan Beach Resort, Cagwait, Surigao del Sur, on December 1-3, 2022.
The main goal of the said event is to gear the college for better quality offerings in the upcoming academic year by assessing and comparing the programs and services of the college in the current academic year.
Each department presented assessment and plans to create a blueprint for their intervention. The Sociology and Social Work departments, respectively chaired by Ms. Connie Fern Miranda and Prof. Desiree Gonzales highlighted the need for international linkages and benchmarking. According to Ms. Miranda, “benchmarking international institutions provides a better reference for the plans; Prof. Gonzales agreed to the idea.
Prof. Ruth E. Sanchez, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS) concurred to the remarks of the chairpersons. “We need to establish international linkages, especially in Sociology, because the discipline itself needs constant upgrade,” said Prof. Sanchez.
Ms. Nizza Villahermosa of the Department of Communication and Humanities (DCH) reported that the DCH is planning to submit proposals for two baccalaureate programs, namely, the Bachelor of Science in Developmental Communication and Bachelor of Arts in English Language. Ms. Villahermosa stressed that the creation of the programs is ongoing.
Accreditation was also discussed considering that the Bachelor of Science in Social Work and Bachelor of Science in Psychology will be having their Level I AACCUP accreditation next year. “We are already preparing for the AACCUP accreditation,” Prof. Loressa Paguta, chairperson of the Department of Psychology noted. The Department of Sociology already had Level III program accreditation last October 24-28, 2022 and waiting for the assessment. Challenges were identified and addressed deliberately. -JBNapone/CHASS/pico
