The College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS) lead by its dean, Dr. Rollyn C. Daguil hosted a conference dubbed as CISCON 2022 or Computing Information Systems Conference 2022. Its theme was "Advancement of ICT and Computing Trends toward an inclusive and sustainable growth in the region and beyond." The conference was actively participated by various entities and graced by notable international speakers and mentors from the Republic of Indonesia and Malaysia who are known experts in the field. The two-day conference held in both virtual and face-to-face encounter was held at the CSU-HERO Learning Commons Auditorium on July 14-15, 2022.

Online participants and other attendees include Butuan City Councilor - Hon. Cherry May G. Busa; DICT Caraga Region Director – Mario P. Cuñado; DOST Regional Director Engr. Noel M. Ajoc; CHED Caraga Regional Director – Dr. George M. Colorado; CSU President – Dr. Anthony M. Penaso; CSU Vice President for Research, Innovation and Extension – Dr. Rowena P. Varela; CSU Alumni Regent Ms. Michel B. Valdez; CCIS Dean - Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil; CISCon Chief - Dr. Vicente A. Pitogo; CCIS Faculty; Graduating students from MSIT, BSCS, BSIS and BSIT programs, and other ITE Faculty of different HEIs/SUCs of Caraga Region.

The event started with an opening message from Dr. Varela emphasizing that ICT can be a tool for governance, planning, communication, and visualization."

The first keynote speaker was Professor Marsudi Wahyu Kisworo, a member of the Board of Governors of the National Agency for Research and Innovation of the Republic of Indonesia. He received the Asia Best Education Leader Award at the World Education Congress in 2017 and the IT Man of the Year award in 2020 from "The Economics Review."

Prof. Kisworo featured a Framework for an enterprise's digital transformation from his newest book on Digital Transformation. How the digital transformation must be performed. Prof. Kisworo said, "Digital Transformation currently becomes a big issue, especially in Indonesia, maybe in the Philippines, and other countries. Government and private enterprises are moving or implementing digital transformation". He said that almost 80% of all digital transformations in Indonesia have failed to meet the purpose of digital transformation. He developed a framework on how digital transformation must be performed.

Dr. Rolyn Daguil, Dean of the CCIS, added some important insights about the CCIS endeavor on Research, Development, Extension, and Commercialization Trends. He said, "I am very thankful for the insights of Prof. Kisworo on the importance of digital transformation. We are truly amazed at how things are working in Indonesia. We look forward to having some fruitful partnership in the future and on how we can adapt to the pillars he mentioned.

Moreover, Dr. Daguil presented the CSU research and development agenda for the next five years. CSU has 16 research, extension, and Innovation centers. Parallel/breakout session topics include: computing, digital innovation, and information sciences. Particularly on (1) Intelligent Systems and Data-driven Science, (2) Digital Innovation and Technopreneurship, (3) ICT and Its Applications, and (4) General Information Systems Topics (to learn more about the said tracks, visit the Official Website of CISCon via http://ciscon.carsu.edu.ph/call-for-paper.

The second keynote speaker was UK based Dr. Suleman Khan, an expert in Software-Defined Networks from the University of Malaya, Malaysia, in early 2017. He is with the University of Central Lancashire, Preston, UK as a senior lecturer in cybersecurity, where he is also a course leader for an M.Sc. in IT security. His work include network forensics, software-defined networks, the Internet of Things, cloud computing, edge computing, and vehicular communications.

Dr. Khan talked about a Software-defined network and its role in other emerging technologies. “There is a possibility that a person can program network devices according to their demand and agile requirement of the enterprise organization. SDN is the next-generation network architecture that can manage, adapt, enhance and secure computing systems without a massive cost. Its feature can be integrated with the next-generation emerging technologies," Khan said.

CISCon 2022 also conducted its first Multi-Stakeholders’ Forum and Oath-Taking of CCIS Alumni Officers on its second day. It was graced by Butuan City Councilor, Hon. Cherry May G. Busa the City Council’s Chair on Science and Technology. Councilor Busa presented a video “KINSA ANG LAGSIK NGA DAKBAYAN?" (Video Source: https://bit.ly/3cqtt5j). The video presented the current and future plans of an urbanized City, spreading its development in the rural areas.

Dr. Rolyn Daguil, CCIS Dean concluded that the forum is timely and is aligned with the current and future computing research, extension, and production of different RDI Centers of the CCIS to the goals and plans of the City Government of Butuan.

Recent research and development of the RDI Centers include; (1) Design and Development of Intelligent Traffic Control and Management System; (2) Real Property Management, Mapping, and Visualization; and (3) Geographic Information System for Agricultural and Fisheries Machinery and Infrastructure.
