To promote deep appreciation and excellence in microbiology, the Caraga State University’s Microbiology Majors and Enthusiasts Society (MicroBioMES) hosted the 2nd Mindanao Microbiology Olympiad Regional Elimination Round on February 7, 2025, gathering quizzers from five (5) schools within Caraga.
The olympiad with the theme, "Hudyaka: Celebrating Microbiology Knowledge, Diversity, and Innovation,” was designed and spearheaded by the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) Microbiology Society. It aims to develop a deep appreciation for microorganisms and encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration among students.
The participating schools included Libertad National High School, Philippine Science High School - Caraga Region Campus, Butuan City Senior High School Stand Alone, Agusan National High School, and Taligaman National High School.
The following are the winners and qualifiers for the final round, which USM will host in Cotabato City on March 7:

1st: Philippine Science High School-Caraga - Francesca Elisha Calo
2nd: Philippine Science High School-Caraga - Elan Victoria Tomaneng
3rd: Agusan National High School - Ranne Docena
Team category:
1st: Libertad National High School - Nicole Dumalauron, Raiza Lipa, and Edan Rivera
2nd: Philippine Science High School - Caraga - Blessy Cabardo, Francheska Gamutan, and Ethan Salinana
3rd: Butuan City Senior High School Stand Alone- Zarah Goles, Jessa Cuago, and Noviegan Estebat
MicroBioMES Adviser Maria Elma Won, PhD, in her closing message, commended the support and participation of schools, coaches, and the technical working group, who contributed to successful conduct. She encouraged delegates to consider the BS Biology Program of CSU, which offers a specialization in Microbiology for aspiring college applicants.
