Mr. Dandreb Reyes, a second-year BS Information Technology student from the College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS), joined the Philippines’ CyberPearl Team and won 10th in the 1st ASEAN Cyber Shield (ACS) Hacking Contest (Student Division) at the Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia, last November 21–22, 2023. The CyberPearl Team is the wildcard champions in the latest HackforGov 2023 Finals CTF Competition, where Reyes and his team received the Performance Excellence Award.
CyberPearl joined Team Cyb3rKn1ght$ as Philippine representatives. Reyes and his team were sponsored by the Department of Information and Communication (DICT) through the National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-PH) under the Cybersecurity Bureau (CSB).
This ASEAN Hacking Contest is organized by the Korea Internet and Security Agency (KISA).
This is the first time the CCIS and the university have sent a representative to an international cybersecurity competition and placed. It can be noted that during his stint in the national HackforGov 2023 Finals CTF Competition, Reyes was pre-selected as a wildcard member by the DICT-Caraga region despite their team’s placement at the regional level because of his exceptional performance and notably high individual score. │via pico
