Empowering educators through nation-building, volunteerism, and youth development, select state universities and colleges in Mindanao gathered for the 1st Philippine Society of NSTP Educators, Implementers, and Gender Advocates (PSNEI) Mindanao Trainers’ Training Conference-Workshop hosted by Caraga State University on March 27-28, 2025.

The program encouraged innovative approaches to NSTP implementation in higher education institutions through meaningful discussions and interactive workshops with the theme: “Empowering Mindanao NSTP Educators and Implementers through Nation Building and Volunteerism.”

University President Rolyn C. Daguil, PhD, graced the event with a welcome address, emphasizing the role of NSTP educators in shaping responsible citizens. Butuan City Councilor Hon. Joseph Omar Andaya, representing the city mayor, was also in attendance and inspired the educators to innovate and collaborate in nation-building.

The first day included a Sofa Chat moderated by Major Hermie P. Pava, featuring former National Defense Secretary and National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales, discussing the evolving role of NSTP educators in community service in the looming security threats in the region.

CSU GAD Director Marjorie Escartin followed with a workshop on mainstreaming gender and development (GAD) in NSTP/NSRC, covering gender inclusivity, the effects of gender and sex roles, and some practices of the university.

The second day tackled various topics on organization, operationalization, and mobilization of NSRC in Mindanao HEIs, sharing of NSRC best practices in Region XI, Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, updates in Mindanao, COMELEC updates on political engagement, and a strategic business meeting to address key concerns, shape policy directions, and plan future initiatives for PSNEI in the region.

The PSNEI workshop fostered a spirit of camaraderie and purpose for the NSTP implementers across Mindanao. Further, it reinforces the commitment of state universities and colleges to equip learners with dedication to nation-building and volunteerism | with reports from GSL & RLT/NSTP
