Caraga State University observed its 2nd Intramurals last September 14-17, 2011 with the theme “Unity and Goodwill through Sports and Musical Competitions.”
The Sports and Physical Education Office (SPEO) headed by Ms. Sitti Obaida J. Cajenta facilitated the celebration in coordination with the Central Student Government (CSG). Students from the different colleges of the university namely: College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Agricultural Sciences and natural Resources (CASNR), College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT), and College of Science Education participated the event.
In the previous years, the CSU-Cabadbaran Campus participated in the event at the CSU-Main Campus. However, this year, Cabadbaran Campus organized their intramurals separately.
The 2nd Intramurals began with a parade around Barangay Ampayon and was followed by an Opening Program at the CSU oval field. The most awaited Cheerleading Competition followed afterwards at the Sanchez Gymnasium.
This year, the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT) was declared champion. CAS was declared 1st Runner-Up and was followed by CSE as 2nd Runner-Up. CASNR, which was last year’s champion, ranked 3rd Runner-Up.
Later that day, different individual and sports events were played.
Games continued on the second day and later on the Dance Sports, Cultural, and Musical Night followed. The Sanchez Gymnasium was occupied with CSU faculty, students, and visitors.
Boxing for male and gay category was the highlight on the third day of the Intramurals. It drew a huge screaming crowd and supporters from different colleges inside the gym.
On the fourth day, a Fun Run from CSU to Antongalon Rice Mill and back was organized. Afterwards, championship of the different games followed. The Intramurals ended with an Awards Night and Victory Ball held at the university gym.

Winners were declared based on the MASCUF competition standards, wherein the team who gained the most number of gold medals shall be declared champion.
The main objective of the sports activity was to select the university’s official athletes and sportsmen for the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Local and Regional Games, Mindanao Association of State Colleges and Universities Federation (MASCUF) and State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) competitions of the current academic year. As to quote an excerpt from the message of our CSU President Dr. Joanna B. Cuenca, CEO III:
“The annual observance of the university intramurals underscores the recognition of the university of the value of sports and healthy competition in the production of well-rounded and competitive individuals who do not only pursue excellence in the academe but also in other dimensions of talents, such as in sports.”
Overall, the 2nd Intramurals Celebration was a big success. It was a good venue fostering smooth relationship and sportsmanship, camaraderie, and amity among students. It built a strong base for competitive students not only in the academic sphere but also in sphere of sports – one of the reasons why CSU can produce excellent and committed students. The celebration is indeed a tradition of well-rounded excellence, an emblem of the entire CSU community.
