CSU President, Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil, founded a collaborative research and development (R&D) partnership agreement within his first seven days in office with the Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) and the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) thru a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on Center for Integrated Circuits and Devices Research (CIDR) last November 22, 2022, at the Mindanao State Institute -Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) College of Engineering and Technology (COET), Iligan City, Philippines.
Dr. Daguil signed the MOA for CSU with Chancellor Atty. Alizedney M. Ditucalan for MSU-IIT, and Atty. Dionel O. Albina, Chancellor of the USTP Main Campus. The Center for Integrated Circuits and Devices Research (CIDR) project is a Department of Science and Technology (DOST) funded initiative that aims to: (1) strengthen our national capability on integrated circuit (IC) design, (2) increase economic competitiveness in the electronics and semiconductor industry, and (3) establish a sustainable local IC design ecosystem to reduce the risk of bringing products to market for technology commercialization. To achieve these goals, the project will establish mirror laboratories at CSU and USTP.
The partnership agreement with MSU-IIT and USTP aligns with the LIKHA Agenda of President Daguil. LIKHA stands for Launchpad for Global Talents and Innovators, Interdependence and High Impact Coalitions, Knowledge Co-creation and Commercialization, Hub for Academic Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Administrative Systems and Digital Transformation. The establishment of the Center or the mirror laboratory in the university covers agendas L, I, K, and H.
The three leaders of the premier universities in Mindanao pledged to support research excellence in establishing the IC Design Center and the mirror laboratories in USTP and CSU. The leaders believed in the importance of interdependence in research and development, creating innovative products for technology transfer & commercialization with the industry, and developing highly skilled university students and professors in IC designs.
Dr. Jefferson Hora of MSU-IIT will serve as the project leader with Engr. Re-Ann Cristine O. Calimpusan, Department of Electronics & Communications Engineering (DECE) Chairperson, and Engr. Thessa Ll. Vergara, Dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT).
The MOA signing were witnessed by Engr. Jeffrey T. Dellosa, PECE, Director of the Technology Transfer and Licensing Office (TTLO), Engr. Alexander T. Demetillo, D.Eng., Director of the Center for Renewable Energy, Automation and Fabrication Technologies (CRAFT), Engr. Re-Ann Cristine O. Calimpusan, Professional Electronics Engineer PECE, Department of Electronics Communication Engineering (DECE) Chairperson, Engr. Lovely Mae Dagsa, Manager of the Packaging and Labelling Innovation Center (PLIC), with Engr. Ydron Paul Amarga, and Engr. Edgardo Ricardo Sajonia, both faculty members of the DECE. Prof. Alvin M.
