Three (3) MS Biology students from the university’s Department of Biology completed a six-month Sandwich Scholarship Program (SSP), a research opportunity open to Master’s and PhD students interested in doing research in Taiwan.
Recipients of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office - Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (MECO-TECO) SSP include Angela Alain Ang, Florianne Labolabo, and Resamay Lara, who worked on detecting and identifying Wolbachia endosymbionts in Aedes and Culex species mosquitoes. This project aimed at understanding the microbial interactions in these medically important vectors.
These Golden Paddlers studied at the Ecology and Evolution Laboratory (EEG) of Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) under the supervision of Dr. Yong-Chao Su and in collaboration with CSU faculty Brent Joy Hernando and alumnus David Jone Herrera.
The partnership between CSU and KMU, initiated by Professor Maria Elma Won, the student’s thesis adviser, offers valuable international exposure, equipping students with advanced molecular and ecological research techniques. It also contributes to the university’s efforts to enhance global academic partnerships and research capabilities. | via CMNS/DB, PICO
