Students from the College of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (CMNS) and the College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS) secured top spots in the competitions held during HealthCon 2023, the 6th Caraga Health Research and Development Convention at the HERO Learning Commons from November 8-9, 2023.
Coach Mr. Jashin C. Rosal and his students Yanna Heart Bande, Kate Lindsay Montesclaros, and Jabes Nemuel A. Sono from the Department of Biology emerged as First Place (Champion) in the Health Quiz Bowl. In addition, two startup products, VibrioSolve and Mental Boost, representing CMNS and CCIS respectively, were chosen among the Top 5 Finalists in the Health Technology Ideation Pitching.
The VibrioSolve: Phage-based Alternative to Antibiotics in Controlling Vibrio Infections in Aquaculture of Maegan D. Fumar, John Andrew L. Daminar, and Fidel James R. Lanuevo was coached by Ms. Maria Elma Q. Won, Chairman of the Biology Department. CCIS’s startup Mental Boost, the recent Navigatu Pitching Competition winner, was also selected as one of the top 5 finalists. The Incubation Project Head of Navigatu TBI, Ms. Jenelyn Refamonte-Asis, served as the coach of Edzel B. Mulig, Desiree S. Olvido, and Katherine Nicole Rose E. Abecia for the startup.
The annual Health Technology Pitching Competition, organized by the Caraga Health Research and Development Consortium (CHRDC), provides students with a platform to present creative solutions for addressing urgent health concerns in the Caraga region.
