The Caraga State University (CSU) expands its efforts in its proposal for the School of Medicine (SoM) by collaborating with the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) for academic cooperation and faculty workforce complementation. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed today, November 5, 2024, at PLM’s Office of the President.

The agreement outlines equality and reciprocity between the universities, highlighting shared interests in several key areas: faculty, researcher, and student exchanges; collaborative research and extension projects; lectures, symposia, and capacity-building programs; training for faculty and laboratory technicians; academic information and material exchanges; and the promotion of other mutually agreed-upon academic collaborations.

This forward-thinking partnership between CSU and PLM represents a strong commitment to academic excellence and the advancement of medical education. The university is grateful for PLM’s willingness and longstanding expertise in medical education in this alliance. The MOU is deemed to strengthen CSU’s proposal to establish the region’s first public medical school.

In October, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) visited CSU through its Technical Panel to assess the university’s readiness to offer a Doctor of Medicine program. During the exit conference, CHED commended CSU’s efforts, noting that most School of Medicine documentation complies with their set requirements. Lead Technical Panelist Dr. Manuel Dayrit mentioned that only minor compliance requirements remain, which are expected to be addressed in the revised proposal this month.

Present at the MOU signing were CSU President Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil, PLM President Dr. Domingo Y. Reyes, Jr., PLM VP For Academic Affairs Dr. Ronald P. Romero, CSU School of Medicine Dean Dr. Teresita C. Brion, PLM College of Medicine Dean Dr. Rose Anna R. Banal, CSU VP for Executive Operations Dr. Michelle V. Japitana, and CSU VP for Research and Development, Innovation and Extension Dr. Jeffrey T. Dellosa.

The MOU will be valid for five years, starting this year.
