CSU collaborates with the State Colleges in the island provinces of Basilan and Tawi-Tawi and with the new Cotabato State University on R&D mentoring and handholding. The latest addition to the group is Sulu State College (SSC).  The CSU project team visited SSC on September 9-11, 2022 to discuss the nature of the mentoring and hand-holding journey between the 2 SUCs and to initiate the team building between faculty researchers of both institutions.

Dr. Charisma Samparani Ututalum, SSC President, welcomed the team and gave her assurance of the administration’s support for the endeavor. She particularly mentioned the goal of SSC to level up R&D for the SUC to fulfill its mandate in making significant contributions to the socioeconomic growth of the Province of Sulu. The workshop to develop a common project for the teams in agriculture, computer engineering, business management, natural resource management, and public health then commenced after listening to the inspiring messages of Pres. Ututalum and the Project RESEARCH Bangsamoro Lead Implementor, Dr Rowena P. Varela.

The initial undertaking between the 2 SUCs resulted in 6 capsule proposals; one of which is the proposed project in Remote Sensing and GIS of the Island Provinces of BARMM. It is ready for submission to the Ministry of Science and Technology of BARMM for funding. The working teams of the various programs have been continually exchanging ideas to polish the R&D proposals online.

The 2nd phase of the in-person discussion between the working teams will be on November 14-18, 2022 during the SSC Stalwart’s exposure trip to CSU for benchmarking and to join the i-SciTech4Dev 2022 Forum.

Caraga State University (CSU) got a PhP10M grant from the CHED Higher Education in the Context of Bangsamoro Organic Law (HECBOL) to enhance the R&D capability of State Colleges and Universities in the Bangsamoro Region. The project is titled “Project RESEARCH Bangsamoro” to highlight the project’s goal, which is to Retool towards Enhancing Scientific Engagements of Academics for building the Research Culture of HEIs in Bangsamoro.  The project aims to elevate the R&D capability of 3 SUCs and 45 faculty researchers.
