The Junior Foresters Association of the Philippines (JFAP), Forest Ecological Society (FES), and the Caraga Environmental Advocates of Caraga State University joined the river clean-up on September 23, 2019, conducted in barangay Tiniwisan to promote green environment and waste management.
The activity was a joint collaboration of the Local Government Units (LGUs) of barangay Ampayon and Tiniwisan, and the DENR thru the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) as lead agency. Sackful of wastes were collected and segregated during the activity.
Bayan Ko, Linis Ko is a nationwide synchronized clean-up activity program to help reduce volume wastes in all barangays for environmental sustainability.
The event was in line with the celebration of the International Coastal Clean Up (ICC) and National Clean Up Month held every September. It aims to complement and expand the existing clean-up programs such as the former Basura Patrol Program, now called the Solid Waste Education and Enforcement Program (SWEEP).
In line with the objectives of the Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022, the program also aims to contribute in ensuring ecological integrity, clean and healthy environment, specifically to promote the practice or reduce, re-use and recycle (3Rs) and proper waste management.
The “Bayan Ko, Linis Ko” was realized after the waste mapping of the EMB’s “Basura Patrol Program” that listed a total of 6,393 violations of RA 9003 (Ecological Solid Waste Management Act) due to rampant littering and illegal dumping of garbage.WDV/pico
