Faculty and students from the university’s Bachelor of Science in Biology and Master of Science in Biology programs held another talk series on the latest scientific advancements and research findings related to recent discoveries in HIV, avian influenza, and vaccine development on October 11, 2024, at the Auditorium of HERO Learning Commons.

Dr. Brandon C. Rosen, a Research Scientist at the Department of Pathology at George Washington University's School of Medicine & Health Sciences, shared valuable insights on HIV vaccine development and strategies for preventing future pandemics, including those potentially caused by pathogenic avian influenza. His expertise emphasized the significance of innovative research in combating emerging global health threats, highlighting the critical need for preventive measures and advanced vaccine technologies to mitigate the risks posed by evolving pathogens.

This talk series was designed to expand participants' expertise on the pivotal role of nonhuman primate vaccination and immunological studies in pandemic prevention, focusing on HIV and avian influenza research. Additionally, attendees were updated on the latest advancements in understanding SIV elite controllers and how these insights are being leveraged in the development of vaccines and treatments for the ongoing HIV pandemic.
