League of Campus Organization (LCO), headed by the current president Neil Lastimosa, in coordination with United Nation Youth Association of the Philippines (UNYAP) conducted the Caraga State University Millennium Development Goals Summit on October 12, 2011 at CSU-CSE AVR.
It was opened with an exposition on the highlights of Eight Millennium Development Goals, which were presented by OSAS director Henson M. Dejarme. Video presentations on Goal No. 1 (Eradicating extreme poverty and hunger) and No. 8 (Develop a global partnership for development) were also exposed by NEDA representative Ms. Elvie C. Ato.
Speakerships of Mr. Jeffry Angcla (Caraga Regional Vice Pres. Internal, UNYAP), Gilbert D. Alerta (Caraga Regional Vice Pres. External, UNYAP), Neil Lastimosa (Caraga Regional Pres. Internal, UNYAP) and Loreniel Anonuevo (GP-EIC) followed. Four speakers centered their presentations on the role of students in realizing MDGs by the year 2015.
The said one day seminar was participated by Organization presidents and was sponsored by Gender and Development Office (GAD) and Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS). This was an extension to the newly celebrated 12th International Youth Day Summit that was conducted last August 7-12, 2011 at Ilo-ilo city.
Discussions on Goal 4 (Reduce Child Mortality), Goal 5 (Improve Maternal Health) and Goal 6 (Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases) by DOH emissary Heronida Preston RN, MPH, started the afternoon sessions. It was succeeded with a talk on Goal no. 3 (Promote gender equality and empower women) from POP-COM representative Jerry Mayas Gupit. DENR envoy Cheryl Taganahan deliberated goal no. 7 (Ensure environmental sustainability) which ended the mentioned summit.
