On June 8, 2022, Caraga State University’s Navigatu presented Macro Wiring Company Inc. Chief Executive Officer/President, Engr. Jerenato B. Alfante for a talk on Entrepreneurship (Start Ups). CEO Alfante was also invited as panel chairperson during Navigatu’s pitching event in the afternoon with ARD Ricardo Varela of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), ARD Brenda B. Corvera of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Butuan City Councilor Cherry Mae Busa, and Dean Joshua Solis of Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) seating as members, Panel of Evaluators.
The pitching event was organized by TBI Manager Melbert R. Bonotan with TTLO director, Engr. Jeffrey Dellosa and College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS) Dean, Dr. Rollyn Daguil with other Navigatu staff Jenelyn Refamonte. It was hosted by Nathan Kit Berro.
The students and faculty members of both Butuan City and Cabadbaran campuses were all agog, excited, delighted and inspired listening to an expert who made his way up through sheer diligence, hardwork, determination, patience and persistence.
Caraga State University recognizes that science, technology, and innovation are vital for national development and advancement. CSU, in its quest to be the lead innovative and entrepreneurial university in Caraga region and the whole of Mindanao created the Innovation and Technopreneurship Hub (iTecH) branded as NAVIGATU, the Technology Business Incubator (TBI) jointly founded by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technologies Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD).
Navigatu’s goal is to contribute to local and regional economic development by strengthening the entrepreneurial culture within the university and helping nurture ideas into a self-sustaining enterprise. Navigatu has consistently conducted an incubation program that solved specific problems through innovative solutions.
The Caraga region is blessed with vast natural resources and is part of the so-called Philippine food basket. According to the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), the Caraga region plans to be the country’s center for Fishery, Agro-Forestry, Mineral, and Ecotourism (FAME) by 2022 it falls under the Agriculture, Fishery, and Forestry (AFF) which is the Caraga’s banner sector. On the other hand, the Global Innovation Index (GII) reported that there is a strong correlation between innovation and economic development. It is a timely call to inject innovation into FAME and related industries and utilize its immense natural resources. Hence, a face-to-face Pitching Competition about Driving Innovation towards Caraga's Fishery, Agro-Forestry, Mineral, and Ecotourism (FAME) was initiated.
In his message, Engr. Jeffrey T. Dellosa extended utmost thanks to Engr. Jerenato B. Alfante for taking the time to help and motivate Caraga State University's aspiring student entrepreneurs and faculty members by his talk in the only session on entrepreneurship (startups) and for being the panel chairperson during Navigatu's pitching event.
