Caraga State University underwent a three-day Internal Quality Audit Training on May 29-31, 2017 at the Big Daddy Hotel and Convention Center organized by ASC Management Systems Consultancy.
In an effort of improving the competence of the university’s internal lead auditors in the conduct of Internal Quality Audit (IQA), and in compliance to the Corrective Action Request (CAR) required by the Office of the AJA Registrars after the Stage 2 Audit, the Caraga State University (CSU) arranged a Three-Day (3) Internal Quality Audit (IQA) Training on May 29-31, 2017 at the Big Daddy’s Convention Center, Butuan City.
The activity being an integral part of the major activities of the Office of the Quality Assurance and Management Services (QuAMS), was organized by the ASC Management System Consultancy, an ISO consultancy firm based in Butuan City. The three-day event was attended by thirty (30) personnel of CSU including CSU president, Dr. Anthony M. Penaso, vice presidents, deans, heads of different units, QuAMS Core Group members, and select senior faculty members.
Dr. Anthony M.Penaso, in his opening message emphasized that the university-being an ISO certified institution-must continue to achieve continual improvement to ensure quality services and satisfaction of its users. The conduct of IQA training is a good mechanism for measurement and evaluation of performance and compliance of all processes to the established requirements in order to guarantee the quality of services offered. The University President further pointed out that advantages in the process are possible only if top management is able to engage people for the cause. Every person who affects quality should have the required competence, and be given training in the principles and dimensions of quality. They must understand why it is necessary to measure trends in processes, and to declare non-conforming services and not hide them. Challenges are numerous so are the benefits.
The opening message of the University President was followed by the series of lectures and workshops with Mr. Kevin Castillon, lead auditor of AJA Registrars and head for VisMin, as the main training facilitator/speaker for the entire three-day training. Topics covered in the training include: preparing the audit programme, audit plan, audit checklist, and audit trail.
Participants have learned a great deal on how to conduct an internal audit using the ISO 9001:2008 Standards and a glimpse of the ISO 9001:2015 version. With the surveillance audit soon to take place for three years, participants being equipped with the necessary competence and skills are ready to conduct and manage an internal audit to gain a step ahead.
All three CSU Vice Presidents, Dr. Rolando N. Paluga, Academic Affairs, Dr. Rowena P. Varela, Research and Extension, and Dr. Armie Leila M. Mordeno also attended the said event, the latter did the closing remarks. QUAMS/piaea
