Taking a significant step towards fostering innovation and sustainable forestry practices, Caraga State University signed a Memorandum of Agreement between the Department of Science and Technology-Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI) on May 14, 2024, to establish regional forest products innovation and training centers in the country.
The innovation and training Centers will serve as hubs for cutting-edge research and technology development. Dissemination of best practices and training programs are also planned to equip forestry professionals and stakeholders with the skills and knowledge to implement sustainable forest management strategies.
They will also foster economic growth and social development in the region by creating opportunities for income generation, job creation, and the empowerment of local communities dependent on forest-based livelihoods.
Dr. Rico J. Cabangon, OIC-Director of DOST-FPRDI, and CSU President Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil led the ceremonial signing with Dr. Noel M. Ajoc, Regional Director of DOST-Caraga, and Engr. Edward Paul S. Marasigan, Project Leader as witnesses.
University key figures were also in attendance, including Dr. Alexander T. Demetillo, Vice President for Administrative and Finance, and Dr. Jeffrey T. Dellosa, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension, represented by Dr. Junrey Mathias, highlighting the CSU's commitment to advancing environmental stewardship and driving research and innovation initiatives.
Faculty members from the College of Forestry and Environmental Science-Department of Forestry also witnessed the activity, led by Dr. Roger T. Sarmiento, College Dean, represented by the For. Joel A. Mercado, Associate Dean and For. Rey N. Cossid, Center Director, the latter underscored the university's dedication to shaping a greener future.
