The Association of College of Engineering and Information Technology Students (ACEITS), the official organization of the CEIT students, conducted a Summer Leadership and Management Academy last April 29-30 and May 1, 2011 at Mansand Beach Resort in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte.
The attendees were all the ACEITS officers, and the Presidents, Vice-Presidents, Secretaries, and Treasurers of its eight (8) program-based organizations in its domain. These are the Society of Agricultural Engineering Students (BS AgEng), Computer Science Society (BSCS), Junior Institute of Electronics and Communications Engineers of the Philippines (BSECE), Young Geodetic Engineering Students Society (BSGE), Information System Students Society (BSIS), Society of Information Technology Students (BSIT), Mining Engineering Students Society (BS MngE), and the Association of Computer Technology Students (DCT).
This capability building was made in view of the responsibilities that have to be faithfully and correctly dispensed by the incoming officers. This is to orient, build up knowledge and skills for the student leaders to be prepared for the obligations that are laid before them. Further, beyond the equipping, is to orient them on university policies governing student organizations.
The speakers include Mr. Alfred R. Cruz, the Guidance Counselor of the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT) who spoke on the topic “Identifying and Explaining One’s Personality, and Its Implication on the Dynamics of an Organization”. Mr. Henson M. Dejarme, the Director for Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS) of Caraga State University spoke on the following - the “Guidelines for Student Organizations Management”, “The Arts and Science of Leadership”, and “The Challenges and Opportunities as a Student Leader”.
Mr. Junace J. Acera, a faculty member in the IT Department of the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT) delivered the topic on “ Team Building”. Engr. Jonathan M. Tiongson, Director of Quality Assurance Management Services (QuAMS) and Adviser of ACEITS, spoke for three sessions with workshops on the topics-“Management Principles and Functions”, “Management Dynamics”, and “Office Correspondence and Documentation”. Ms. Ma. Victoria M. Labisto, the Budget Officer III of Caraga State University spoke on the topics “Budgeting”, Preparation of Income Statement”, and “Work and Financial Planning”.
The activity was designed to agree with the theme “Transcending through Innovations towards New Frontiers in Nation Building”.
