“When the success of your relationship with your superior leads to promotion and new opportunities and challenges, you will have all the skills you need to manage the next boss, and the next one, until you become a boss yourself," Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, President of the Phil. Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC), said in his lecture on "Managing My Manager: Innovative Decision-Making" during the first day of the Seminar-Workshop on Completed Staff Work: Enhanced Decision-Making in SUCs held at Hotel Rembrandt, Quezon City on May 28-30, 2019.
The three-day seminar-workshop was attended by the Office of the Planning and Development Director, Dr Tomas M. Austral, Jr, Office of the University Board Secretary Atty. Dianah Jee U. Saspa, their Technical Assistants, Ms. Sharon U. Reyes and Ms. Datche P. Dagooc together with the other participants coming from the different SUCs in the Philippines.
VMSU President, Dr. Milabel Enriquez-Ho discussed, “Manifestations of CSW Practice: Effective Meetings and Agenda Preparation”, where the three steps in attaining CSW through issue identification, data analysis, development and assessment of options, development of recommendations and getting it right at the first time were explained. The three rules of running a meeting which includes: setting an agenda, starting on time, ending on time and having an action plan were also expounded by Dr. Ho. Participants were then given an activity where they would apply the steps in attaining CSW on a certain issue and craft results and recommendations.
Other relevant and informative topics were discussed by the experts such as: “The Concept and Principles of Completed Staff Work” by the NEDA-CAR Regional Director Milagros A. Rimando; “Standards on Legislative Documents” by the CHTE Committee Secretary Melanie Mauricio; “CSW on Higher Education Documents on Accreditation and SUC Levelling” by the CHED IV Director Amelia A. Biglete and “CSW Standards of Financial Documents (budget proposal, staffing modification & budget reports)” by the former DBM-OPCCB Director Edgardo M. Macaranas.
Dr. Serafin L. Ngohayon, Ifugao State University President discussed about “Managing Complete Staff Work: Process and Planning Checklists” where he emphasized the importance of CSW and SUCs pursuit of their goals vis-a-vis across time; managing the practice of CSW across the SUCs organizational structure; CSW process and checklists; and managing situations arising from CSW for enhanced decision making.
“The event was very engaging; brainstorming, and collaborating with other SUC participants and the speakers enlightened us,” said Dr. Tomas M. Austral, OPD Director.RZ/pico
