Caraga State University delegates Gilbert Alerta, Loreniel Anonuevo, Jeffrey Angcla, Niel Lastimosa and Joey Arles Vergara participated the 12th International Youth day Celebration with the theme: “Volunteering for MDGs: Discover the Volunteer in You”, at Sarabia Manor Hotel, Ilo-Ilo City Philippines on August 3-7,2011.
The 5-day seminar was successfully incorporated with different participants coming from various countries in Asia. Some were from South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, India, Cambodia and Bangladesh. Of course many were coming from the host country Philippines, where CSU is one of the active participating schools representing Mindanao.
Plenary sessions were the highlights of the conducted summit regarding with the current stand and analysis on the concerned eight Millennium Development Goals. Majority of the guest speakers were eminent professors and international delegates as mentioned. Plenary talks were very much focused on the updates of eight goals, which were projected to be realized by the year 2015.
Speakers and presenters namely, Mr. Alex Lacson (Author, 12 Little Things Every Filipino Can Do for Our Country) and Mr. Antonio Meleto (Ramon Magsaysay Awardees for community Development and Founder of Gawad kalinga) centered their discussions on the vital role of an individual towards the bigger than the biggest change country can achieve. As one of the lines from Lacson, “Leadership is very important, but as so as Citizenship, Spirit of Volunteerisms must reside in you”.
CSU emissaries also joined different IYD competition such as extemporaneous speaking contest, essay writing contest, photography and poster making contest.
The celebrated annual summit ended with the different cultural presentations and certificate distributions.
