President Rodrigo Roa Duterte witnessed the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and State Colleges and Universities (SUCs) on June 13, 2018 at the Rizal Hall, Malacañang Palace.
A total of 112 state universities and colleges, and 78 local universities and colleges, including our very own maverick president, Dr. Anthony M. Penaso, signed the agreement to launch the implementation of Republic Act No. 10931 or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education.
Highlight of the MOA signing was the keynote speech of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte emphasizing the academic sectors’ role as the administration’s partner for change; and his vision for a comfortable life for all. President Duterte delivered his speech before the CHED Commissioners, Governing Board Members, Secretariat, and Regional Coordinators of the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UniFAST), representatives from Technical Vocational institutions, SUCs, LUCs, LGUs, and Civil Society Organizations, some congressmen; and the CHED Central and Regional Office Directors.
The SUCs presidents and LUCs also presented their Pledge of Commitment to further seal the MOA signing. No other Philippine Presidents have ushered this kind of initiative to benefit the Filipino youth of Free Tertiary Education, other than President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. piaea
