Sustainability Program

Conservation of energy through the proper use and maintenance of air-conditioning system has been practiced since 2004. All offices, classrooms and laboratories of the university have followed the policy guidelines for energy saving and maintenance guidelines for air conditioning system as stipulated in Memorandum No. 84 s. 2444. The same memorandum was reiterated throughout the years and the latest memorandum on energy conservation was VPA Memorandum order no. 25 s. 2015.

The installation of solar panels aids the electricity requirement of the university. Currently, these are used by computer laboratories so that classes will not be interrupted in case of a power outage.

Signage are placed in every room to remind CSU personnel and students to turn off the lights when no one is using the room. Fluorescent aluminum reflector is installed to greatly increase the overall efficiency of the lighting system. Rooms have fiber glass windows to lessen the energy requirement for lighting.

The university implements paperless transactions thru its online student services which facilitates the compliance of academic deficiencies, financial obligations, and graduation clearance. Since clearance is computerized, usage of papers is minimized thereby promoting sustainability of resources. CSU also employs an online faculty performance evaluation system (PES) which is regularly conducted every semester. The module of the system is readily accessible to all concerned students and CSU personnel using their assigned accounts. Since faculty performance evaluation system is online it provides an opportunity to evaluate the faculty more efficiently and in an environment-friendly manner. Submission of student grades is also done online thru a module generated by the ICT department. Moreover, csu is also implementing the recycling of one-sided used papers for internal transactions.

Memoranda, special orders, minutes of meeting of the academic council and administrative council are posted in the CARSU on-tine system where faculty and other personnel can access thru their accounts.

Paper wastes are temporarily stored and these will be collected by a buyer for 1.00 peso per kilo. Temporary record of sales of paper wastes in CSU.

Solid wastes generated in the university are segregated into nonbiodegradables and biodegradables. Strategic places within the campus are provided with garbage bins and sacks. Biodegradable wastes generated within the university are fed to the African night crawler in the vermicomposting facility which is part of the organic agriculture project endeavor of the university. Compost derived from vermicomposting are sold to the public including farmers and students. Non-biodegradable wastes such as plastic bottles are collected by janitors and sold to junkshop.
